Mount Dora, Florida is having the First Annual “Celebrate Mount Dora, Labor Day Weekend”, September 3, 4 & 5, 2010. This event is planned to be the first of its kind event and all agree that it’s about time we celebrate our town!
The weekend begins Friday, September 3 with our “Sip, Shop & Save Sidewalk Sale” from the downtown Mount Dora retail merchants from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The sidewalk sale continues Saturday 10-7 and Sunday 10-5. Enjoy refreshments as you mingle among unique shops and galleries for bargains galore!
On Saturday, September 4th, Mount Dora will brighten your day with the “Celebrate Mount Dora Days Chili Cookoff” from 2 to 6 p.m. at Evan’s Park downtown Mount Dora (end of Donnelly Street at the Lakefront). Fifteen entrants will battle for the Best of the Best with second and third place trophies for bragging rights. Judging will be announced at 2:30 by a panel of judges. There is a $5 charge for the public to taste each vendor’s chili. Proceeds will benefit the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce.
Also on Saturday, September 4th the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club will provide “free” lawn bowling lessons from 11 AM until 4 PM for anyone who would like to learn lawn bowling. The facility is adjacent to all the activities on Donnelly, south of Charles;
Not to be outdone, from 2 - 6 p.m., in a location downtown at store front corner of 4th and Alexander the local pie aficionados will compete for first, second and third place for the “Best Pie in Town” Pie Baking Contest! Come by and enjoy a slice with or without a la mode! Proceeds to benefit the Mount Dora Save the Pool Association. Judging will be at 2 p.m.
While leisurely strolling from the Chili Cookoff to the Sidewalk Sale and Pie Baking Contest, you can enjoy a FREE Water Sports Demonstration courtesy of Liquid Sports Marine from 2 – 6 p.m. on our beautiful Lake Dora!
The FREE entertainment continues with live music by the “Insecurites” at Grantham Point from 5 – 8 p.m. Bring your blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the concert. Rain or shine so bring an umbrella.
As your day winds down Saturday listening to the band and enjoying water sports and sunset over Lake Dora, the City of Mount Dora will display their “Celebrate Mount Dora Fireworks Display” at 8 p.m. FREE to all!
On Sunday, September 5th, our sidewalk sale continues from 10 – 5 p.m.
