Light Up Mount Dora 2008
Seems as if the Saturday night experiment was a success for the annual Light Up Mount Dora event. The park was full, the shops and restaurants were slammed and the Inns and B&B's were at capacity.
A picture is worth a thousand words so here are a few. Follow this link to the photo gallery for the latet hi-res photos taken Saturday.

Official "March of Wines" Press Release!
MOUNT DORA, FLORIDA: To raise funds for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign, the Mount Dora Lodging Association will present the Second Annual March of Wines on Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 5 to 9 pm, in downtown Mount Dora. The progressive holiday wine tasting will tour three festively-adorned inns, including the Heron Cay, Mount Dora Historic Inn and the Mount Dora Cottages.
The spirit of the holidays begins as Christmas carolers from the Warren Acting Company greet guests boarding an old-fashioned trolley. Arriving at the inns, guests will sample a selection of regional wines provided by The Wine Den, The Cellars at Maggie's Attic, and Wine Cellars of Mount Dora. Showcased wines will be paired with select finger foods and desserts prepared by the Goblin Market, Frosty Mug, 5th Avenue Café, One Flight Up, and Saucy Spoon Catering. Wrapping up the tour, Victorian-costumed carolers from the First Presbyterian Church will entertain with songs of the season.
Many guests will leave for home carrying their own Christmas gifts courtesy of Mount Dora merchants, restaurateurs, and innkeepers who are donating exclusive raffle items such as bed and breakfast gift certificates, decorated gift baskets, complimentary dinners, wine packages, salon treatments and more.
"Last year's event was a big hit," says John Cataldo, president of the Mount Dora Lodging Association. “Not only was it a sellout, we filled two SUV's with toys and donated a $1,000 in cash. This year with more inns participating we're hoping to contribute even more to Toys for Tots.”
Tickets for the 'March of Wines' holiday tour are $50 per person and limited seating is available. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy donation for Toys for Tots. For more information and to reserve your seat now, contact the Adora Inn at (352) 735-3110.

A worthwhile charity event!!
DONNELLY EURO FOOTWEAR ANNOUNCES SHOE DRIVE TO BENEFIT SOLES4SOULS™ Inc., THE SHOE CHARITY,
AT 402 N. DONNELLY STREET, MT. DORA FLORIDA
ON NOVEMBER 21, 2008
Central Florida residents are invited to recycle their 'gently worn' shoes for people in need
Nashville, TN – DATE – Every 23 seconds, Soles4Souls Inc. http://www.soles4souls.org/
For a limited time, Soles4Souls and Donnelly Euro Footwear will be collecting your gently worn footwear and/or donations to ship the shoes to people in need, whether they are victims of a natural disaster or subject to living in extreme poverty. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someone's life.
“We can use the shoes taking up space in your closet to change the world one pair at a time,” Elsey said. “We need our partners in Central Florida to 'STEP UP' and get behind our call for action. It’s one of the most simple yet profound gifts you can make, because it will greatly improve someone’s life in the most difficult of times,” he said.
“Donnelly Euro Footwear is proud to assist in this very worthwhile benevolence. Most Americans forget how fundamental shoes are to our everyday existence. For most folks a simple donation of shoes that they no longer want or need can make a real difference in the lives of people that have no shoes at all. To thank folks for their donations of gently worn shoes, Donnelly Euro Footwear will give them $10 for each pair they donate towards the purchase of a new pair of shoes or handbag. This is a great way for folks to rid themselves of shoes they no longer want, get a new pair of shoes for themselves and they can feel good about the donation they have made. Whether victims of a natural disaster or people living in poverty, Soles4Souls make these shoes available to those in need throughout the USA and the world. Soles4Souls is an awesome opportunity for everyone to help make the world a better place.” Jim Timberlake, Donnelly Euro Footwear. www.GoodComfortableShoes.com The event at Donnelly Euro Footwear will run November 21st through December 21st.
People and companies interested in donating can visit the organization’s website at www.giveshoes.org, and follow the instructions.

School Days
Now, if only I could go back to high school knowing what I know today. Boy, I would have had a lot more fun! (If that is possible?) I certainly wouldn't have been in such a hurry to grow up!
Anyway, I was sitting in my office today wondering what kind of concert was going on and to my delight the concert marched past my door.
Happy Homecoming Mount Dora High!
